My 3 hour trip in London! July 3, 2007

Filed under: London — Shirley @ 4:29 pm

As promised, here is what happened when I visited London!

After that fiasco at Virgin Atlantic counter, my luggages were finally checked in, and I only got my carry on with me (the laptop bag), and off I go on the Heathrow Express train for 15 GBP to London Paddington Station. In hindsight, I could’ve taken the Tube, but that train was super nice and smooth, and worth the $ (check out how much it costs on http://www.heathrowexpress.com). Most of the people riding on that Heathrow express train looked like business wo/men, I bet they probably charged right out of the corporate account.

The train is, as advertised, 15 minutes to London Paddington every 15 minutes! On the train, I passed some industrial area. Entertainment on the train was BBC World. Soon I was at London Paddington Station!

At the station, there was this cute lil conveyor belt sushi place, and boot’s… The station was cute, so I decided to venture out and see what Paddington was all about. After walking a few blocks, it was obvious that nothing really was around there. So I went to the Tube and looked for my next destination.

“London Bridge” sounded promising! 5.10 GBP for a day pass, and off I go on the Tube! On my way there, I heard the “voice” in the train mention the parliament and also the Buckingham Palace. So I made my first stop at London Bridge, took some pictures, and tracked back to see the parliament and the palace. I got some cute pictures to upload when I have a faster connection! If you really wanted to just snap a picture at these locations, you can really easily hop from one place to another to see these great sights! I wished that I had a chance to explore the museum though!

Around 2pm, I ended up walking around an area that seemed like the financial district (they had Nobu restaurant there), and bunch of well dressed business people walking around! It was like NY, but some how London style.

My bf wanted to know if RedBull was cheaper in Europe, since they are made in Europe anyways. I went to a grocery store, and found out that they are 1.30 GBP! I guess it’s about the same.

Even with the RedBull, I was getting more and more tired to enjoy London. That was 3pm. It was time to go back to Heathrow. I got back to Heathrow around before 4pm!

Quick tip: some people may not know this, but the cheapest rate to go online at Heathrow is from Sipandsurf, make sure you join that wireless network, and pay 5 GBP for a full day pass! Tmobile is what people usually default to, and it’s definitely more expensive. (credit of this great tip goes to a Chinese businessman who told me about this!)

This quick trip to London really cheered me up and kept me from losing my sanity! Heathrow does have a really good duty-free mall! I didn’t buy any clothes or anything, but I did get my favourite chocolate (Maltesers), and Airwaves (gum)!

Alright, it was time to board my flight to Nairobi!
